About Focus Vision Brisbane

Medical Excellence

What makes Focus Vision different?

A surgical philosophy built on transparency, international technology, and a commitment to patient-first medical ethics over commercial targets.

Surgeon-only consultations

You will always have a consultation with your surgeon prior to your procedure. Your treatment plan is developed by the same surgeon who will perform your procedure, ensuring total continuity of care from your first measurement to your final follow-up.

Latest international technology

Focus Vision was the first clinic in Queensland to offer Ray Tracing LASIK — a customised laser treatment algorithm that uses ray-tracing optical modelling rather than wavefront measurements alone. We continually invest in technologies that produce better outcomes:

  • Ray Tracing LASIK
  • Lenticule Extraction (CLEAR) for minimally-invasive correction
  • Femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery
  • Topography-guided treatments for irregular corneas
  • Implantable Collamer Lenses (ICL)

Refractive Outcomes Analyzer

We benchmark every refractive outcome at Focus Vision against ESCRS published data. This is unusual for an Australian clinic — most do not publicly track and report outcomes. Our goal is transparency: we want patients to be able to compare our results against international benchmarks before making a decision.

We provide our Refractive Outcomes Analyzer free to surgeons around the world. This tool assists surgeons to ensure they are delivering the best refractive outcomes possible. We also created the globally recognised website cairsplan.com which is used by surgeons globally to assist them in treating corneal diseases.

Co-located with QEI

Our clinic and surgical theatre are housed within the Queensland Eye Institute precinct at 87 Ipswich Road, Woolloongabba. South Brisbane Day Hospital, where we operate, is a fully accredited day-procedure facility meeting ACHS requirements.

Co-location with QEI gives our patients direct access to the largest private subspecialty ophthalmology group in Queensland — including retinal, glaucoma, and oculoplastic specialists — should subspecialty input ever be required.

Who are we?

Focus Vision is a specialist ophthalmology clinic in Woolloongabba, Brisbane, dedicated to advanced laser vision correction, refractive surgery, premium cataract surgery, and corneal procedures.

The clinic was founded by Dr Brendan Cronin and Dr David Gunn — two Australian-trained ophthalmologists who completed international corneal fellowships before returning to Queensland to practise.

Focus Vision is co-located with Queensland Eye Institute and South Brisbane Day Hospital at 87 Ipswich Road, giving patients seamless access to a fully accredited surgical theatre and the broader QEI specialist team.

Dr Cronin and Dr Gunn

Why we founded Focus Vision?

Both Dr Cronin and Dr Gunn spent years training overseas in some of the world’s busiest cornea and refractive units. Returning to Australia, we saw an opportunity to combine the latest international refractive technology — including procedures that were not yet widely available in Queensland — with a personalised, surgeon-led patient experience. We founded Focus Vision with a single guiding principle: every eye is different, and every treatment plan should reflect that.

We perform every assessment, every consultation, and every procedure ourselves. There is no surgical team behind a curtain — when you book an assessment at Focus Vision, you are seen by a specialist ophthalmologist with international fellowship training and thousands of completed procedures.

Our Clinical Philosophy

Refractive surgery is elective. That means every patient who walks through our door has a choice — and our job is to give you the information, candour, and care that lets you make the right one for you.

"We say no to procedures more often than most clinics. If we don't think laser eye surgery is the right option for you, we will tell you, and we will recommend an alternative — even if it means we don't perform the surgery."

Our reputation depends on long-term outcomes, not short-term volume. We are doctors, not sales people. We are not employees and we have no "sales targets" or "quotas". We will give you an honest medical opinion as if you were our own family.

The Focus Vision Assessment

01

Listen first

What matters to you in your daily vision? Glasses-free swimming? Reading menus without readers? Driving at night without halos? Your goals shape your treatment plan.

02

Measure thoroughly

A typical assessment includes corneal topography, OCT, biometry, pupillometry, and a comprehensive medical history review. We don't skip steps.

03

Explain plainly

No jargon, no salespeak. We tell you what we'd do if you were our brother, sister, or parent. Just an honest medical opinion.

04

Follow through

Post-operative care matters as much as the procedure itself. Every patient has direct contact with their surgeon during recovery.
