Privacy Policy
Last updated: 24 October 2026
Focus Vision ("we", "us") is a private eye clinic at 87 Ipswich Road, Woolloongabba QLD 4102. As a health service provider, we are bound by the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).
This policy explains how we collect, use, store and share your personal information, including your health information. It covers information we collect at the clinic, by phone, email or message, and through this website.
The information we collect
- Contact and identity details: your name, date of birth, address, phone number, email and emergency contact.
- Medicare, DVA and private health insurance details, so we can bill correctly.
- Health information: your medical and eye history, medications and allergies, eye test results, scans and photographs of your eyes, prescriptions, referral letters, clinical notes, surgery records and your results after treatment.
- Payment and billing details.
- Your messages to us, including enquiries, emails, WhatsApp messages and phone call notes.
- Website information: your answers to our enquiry and suitability forms, booking details, and technical information about how you use the site (see Our website).
How we collect it
We collect most information directly from you, for example:
- when you book an appointment, fill in our patient forms or see us;
- when you phone, email or message us;
- when you complete an enquiry form or our laser eye surgery suitability test, or book online.
With your consent, or where the law allows, we also collect information from others involved in your care: your referring GP or optometrist, other specialists, hospitals, pathology and imaging providers, your health fund, or a parent, guardian or person you have authorised.
You can ask us general questions without giving your name. We cannot assess or treat you anonymously, because we need to identify you to give safe care and to bill Medicare or your health fund.
Why we use it
- To assess your eyes, advise you, and provide treatment and surgery.
- To contact you about appointments, reminders, results and follow-up care.
- To communicate with your GP, optometrist and other health practitioners involved in your care.
- To bill you, Medicare, DVA or your health fund.
- For quality and safety, including audits of our surgical outcomes. Results we publish use de-identified information only.
- To answer your enquiries and improve our website and services.
- To send you information about our services, if you have agreed to receive it (see Marketing).
- To meet our legal and professional obligations.
We do not sell your personal information.
Who we share it with
We share your information only for the purposes above, with your consent, or where the law requires or allows. This may include:
- your referring GP or optometrist, and your regular GP;
- other health practitioners involved in your care, including anaesthetists and the accredited day hospital where your surgery is performed;
- pathology and imaging providers;
- Medicare, DVA and your private health insurer;
- a finance provider such as humm, only if you choose to apply to them yourself;
- service providers who help us run the clinic, such as practice software, online booking (HealthEngine), our enquiry forms and customer relationship system, website hosting, email and SMS. They may use your information only to provide services to us;
- our medical indemnity insurer, legal advisers, or regulators and courts, where required or permitted by law;
- anyone else you authorise.
Information stored outside Australia
Some of our service providers store information outside Australia. Our website host, enquiry form provider and analytics provider are based mainly in the United States. Before using an overseas provider, we take reasonable steps to ensure it protects your information in a way that is consistent with the APPs.
Our website
Analytics and cookies
We use Google Tag Manager and Google Analytics to understand how people use our website. This includes the pages visited, time on the site, device and browser type, approximate location, and the website or search that led you here. We may also use advertising measurement tags to see which advertisements lead to enquiries. These tools use cookies, small files stored by your browser.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, or install the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on. The website will still work if you block them. Like most websites, our host also keeps standard server logs, such as IP addresses and the pages requested, to run and secure the site.
Enquiry forms and the suitability test
Answers you give in our enquiry forms and online suitability test are sent to our team so we can contact you. Our team reviews your answers; no decision about your care or suitability is made by a computer program.
Online booking, maps, videos and social media
Online booking is provided by HealthEngine, and our map is provided by Google Maps. Our videos are played through YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode, which does not set cookies until you play a video. If you use these services, or contact us through Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn or WhatsApp, the provider's own privacy policy also applies.
Refractive Outcomes Analyzer
Files you open in our free Refractive Outcomes Analyzer are processed in your own browser. They are not uploaded to us.
How we keep it safe
We hold information in electronic systems and, in some cases, on paper. We protect it with access controls and passwords, limit access to staff who need it for their work, and require our staff and service providers to keep it confidential.
We keep health records for as long as the law and our professional obligations require, then securely destroy or de-identify them.
If a data breach is likely to cause you serious harm, we will notify you and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner, as the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme requires.
Seeing and correcting your information
You can ask for a copy of the information we hold about you, including your health records, or ask us to correct it. Contact our Privacy Officer using the details below. We will respond within 30 days.
There is no charge for asking. We may charge a reasonable fee to cover the cost of providing copies, and we will tell you the amount first. If we can't give you access, for example where the law allows us to refuse, we will explain why in writing.
Marketing
If you have agreed to hear from us, we may send you emails or text messages about our services. You can opt out at any time by using the unsubscribe link or replying STOP, or by contacting us.
Children and young people
For patients under 18, we usually deal with a parent or guardian. Where a young person is mature enough to make their own health decisions, we may deal with them directly and respect their privacy.
Questions and complaints
If you have a question or concern about your privacy, please contact our Privacy Officer. We will acknowledge your complaint and aim to resolve it within 30 days.
If you are not satisfied with our response, you can contact:
